Real Salt Lake (RSL) is a professional soccer club based in Sandy,
Utah, and has been a prominent member of Major League Soccer (
MLS) since its inception in
2005. The team was established by a local ownership group with a vision to bring top-tier soccer to
Utah. The name "Real" is a nod to the renowned Spanish club Real Madrid, signifying the aspirations for excellence that RSL aimed to achieve.
In its early years,
Real Salt Lake faced the challenges typical of an expansion franchise, struggling to find consistent success on the field. However, in
2009, RSL achieved a historic milestone by winning the
MLS Cup, overcoming all odds and earning a reputation as a formidable competitor in the league.
Beyond their on-field achievements,
Real Salt Lake has made significant contributions off the field as well. The club is well-regarded for its community involvement and outreach programs, actively engaging with fans and local organizations. Additionally, RSL has invested in developing its academy and youth system, producing talented homegrown players who have made an impact both in
MLS and internationally.
As of my last knowledge update in September
2021,
Real Salt Lake is still an active and competitive franchise in
MLS, with a loyal and passionate fan base. The team's commitment to youth development and community engagement remains strong, and they continue to be a respected organization within the league.
